Music Ministry
Worshiping the Lord With Truth, Reverence, and Joy
Music is an important part of worship at Huisache Avenue Baptist Church.
Through congregational singing, the choir, special music, and instrumental accompaniment, our desire is to glorify the Lord, prepare hearts for the preaching of His Word, and encourage the church family to worship together.
We believe church music should direct attention to Jesus Christ, communicate biblical truth clearly, and allow the congregation—not merely those on the platform—to participate in worship.
“O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. ”
Why We Sing
We do not sing simply to fill time before the sermon or to create an emotional atmosphere.
We sing because God is worthy of praise.
Music gives the church an opportunity to:
Praise the Lord together
Express gratitude for His goodness
Remember important biblical truths
Encourage one another in the faith
Prepare our hearts to hear God’s Word
Proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ
Pass the great songs of the faith to another generation
Our goal is for every song to support the message and purpose of the service.
Congregational Singing
Congregational singing is at the heart of our music ministry.
During each service, the church family joins together in singing hymns and Christian songs that emphasize the character of God, the work of Jesus Christ, salvation, Christian living, heaven, missions, and the promises of Scripture.
You do not need musical training or a polished voice to participate. The purpose of congregational singing is not performance—it is the people of God lifting their voices together in worship.
Visitors are welcome to sing along or simply listen as they become familiar with the songs.
Choir and Special Music
Our choir and special music help reinforce the biblical message of each service and encourage the congregation through carefully selected songs.
Those who participate seek to serve with:
A sincere testimony for Christ
Faithfulness to rehearsals and services
A teachable and cooperative spirit
Musical preparation
Modesty and appropriateness
A desire to glorify God rather than draw attention to themselves
The goal is not to showcase talent, but to use the abilities God has given to strengthen the worship of the church.
Instrumental Music
Piano and other instruments support congregational singing, choir selections, and special music.
Our instrumentalists seek to play with excellence while remembering that accompaniment should strengthen the message of the song rather than overpower it.
Those with musical ability may have opportunities to serve as they grow in faithfulness, skill, and involvement in the church.
Music With a Biblical Message
The words of a song matter.
We seek to use music that is:
Doctrinally sound
Centered on Christ
Appropriate for worship
Understandable to the congregation
Consistent with the spirit and message of the service
Capable of being sung meaningfully by the church family
Musical style should never become more important than biblical truth. Our first concern is that the message honors the Lord and agrees with His Word.
Music for Every Generation
We want children, teenagers, and adults to learn to worship the Lord through music.
Throughout the year, different groups may have opportunities to sing during services or special programs. These opportunities help younger members develop confidence, learn Christian songs, and understand that their abilities can be used for God’s glory.
Our desire is not simply to preserve music from the past, but to pass biblical worship to the next generation.
Interested in Serving?
Church music is a ministry, not simply a performance opportunity.
Those interested in serving through the choir, special music, or instrumental accompaniment should first become faithfully involved in the life of the church. A conversation with the music director or pastoral staff can then help determine where there may be an appropriate opportunity to participate.
