Community Outreach
Reaching San Antonio With the Gospel and the Love of Christ
Jesus Christ has called His church to take the gospel beyond the walls of the church building.
The Community Outreach Ministry of Huisache Avenue Baptist Church exists to help our members share the message of salvation, serve people in practical ways, and make a lasting difference throughout San Antonio.
Our goal is not simply to invite people to church. We want to meet people where they are, clearly tell them about Jesus Christ, and show them that their lives matter to God.
Why We Reach Out
God has placed our church in San Antonio for a purpose.
Every person in our community has a soul, a story, and a need for the hope found in Jesus Christ. Outreach gives us the opportunity to leave our comfort zones and personally carry the gospel to our neighbors.
We desire to:
Clearly share the gospel of Jesus Christ
Invite people to hear the preaching of God’s Word
Build relationships within our community
Serve families and individuals facing genuine needs
Encourage people who feel forgotten or alone
Help believers become confident witnesses
Glorify God through compassionate and faithful service
“Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Mark 16:15
Personal Evangelism
The heart of our outreach ministry is personal evangelism.
Throughout the year, church members have opportunities to go into the community, speak with people, distribute gospel literature, invite families to church, and explain how a person can know Jesus Christ as Saviour.
You do not need to be an experienced speaker to participate. New volunteers can accompany more experienced members, observe, pray, and gradually learn how to share their faith clearly and naturally.
Community Outreach Opportunities
Our outreach efforts may include:
Neighborhood Outreach
Teams visit neighborhoods near the church to introduce themselves, invite residents to services and special events, and share the gospel.
Park and Public Outreach
Church members may gather in public areas to meet people, distribute invitations and gospel literature, and have personal conversations about Christ.
Special Event Outreach
Vacation Bible School, revival meetings, holiday services, conferences, and other church events give us opportunities to reach families who may not ordinarily attend church.
Compassionate Service
When needs arise, our church may help through meals, visits, practical assistance, encouragement, or other forms of service.
Visitation
Members may visit those who are sick, homebound, grieving, discouraged, or in need of spiritual encouragement.
Outreach Is for Every Believer
Not everyone serves in exactly the same way.
Some people are comfortable beginning conversations. Others are gifted at listening, praying, organizing materials, preparing meals, providing transportation, following up with visitors, or helping at special events.
There is a place for:
Individuals
Married couples
Families
Teenagers serving with approved adult leaders
New believers who want to learn
Experienced Christians who can train others
The important thing is not that everyone has the same ability. It is that every believer is willing to let the Lord use them.
What to Expect Your First Time
When you attend an outreach opportunity, a leader will explain:
Where the group is going
The purpose of the outreach
What materials will be used
Basic safety and conduct expectations
How to begin a conversation
How to share the gospel clearly
What to do when someone has questions
How follow-up information is handled
New participants may simply accompany an experienced team member until they feel comfortable becoming more involved.
You will never be expected to know everything before you begin.
Church WORKDAYS and Service Projects
Serving the community also includes taking care of the responsibilities and opportunities God has placed directly before us.
Church work days and special service projects may involve:
Cleaning and organizing
Property maintenance
Preparing for ministry events
Helping church families with practical needs
Supporting outreach and missions projects
Delivering meals or supplies
Assisting with community events
The existing page tells visitors to check the events calendar for church work days, but it does not explain what those opportunities involve.
Caring for Those in Need
“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction…”
James 1:27
Biblical compassion is more than feeling concern. It moves us to notice people, visit them, pray for them, and respond wisely when help is needed.
We want to serve with compassion while keeping the gospel central. Meeting a temporary need is valuable, but the greatest need every person has is to know Jesus Christ.
Help Us Reach San Antonio
There are people throughout our city who need truth, encouragement, prayer, friendship, and the hope of the gospel.
Come serve with us as we take the message of Jesus Christ into our neighborhoods and community.
